Press Reports

March - Mac Federal ran a fast finishing 8th in the Imperial Cup at Sandown. Following his win at Kempton he was raised 14lbs in the handicap, this coupled with a slow pace (unusual for the Imperial Cup!), and shorter trip just found him out for a turn of speed when the other accelerated. He ran through many at the end of the race and should put in a good performance at the Cheltenham Festival on Friday.

February - Seamap ran at Kempton, looked dangerous today, but found the pace too hot in the final two furlongs finishing a very close 5th . Mac Federal excellent return from 225 days off, finished less than five lengths off the winner 5th at Lingfield on the flat. Scuzme and Seamap went north to Wolverhampton, both finishing 7th . At Kempton on 24th, Mac Federal, having a warm up run for Cheltenham Festival, won impressively by 14 lengths.

January 2007 - My Monna running well before getting stopped by traffic on the bend couldn't get back after that. Scuzme, coming back to himself putting in two good 4th's, hopefully he'll be winning soon! Toga Party, making his debut at Huntingdon NH flat, ran well. Brookby back to the flat at Kempton running a super race finishing 5th. Watch this space.

December - Scuzme pulled up at Fontwell after hitting a hurdle, back to the flat at Lingfield. My Monna, made a good account of herself at Kempton.

November - Scuzme making his debut over hurdles, finishing a creditable 5th. Vino Venus at Fontwell ran on to be 5th. Qualify, having had six months off the track made a good reappearance. Ladino, run a creditable race at Kempton. Cambo finished 4th at Fontwell. Brookby, making his long awaited debut over hurdles, unfortunately didn't settle early on and pulled up.

October - The month has seen Veno Venus make a pleasing reappearance at Plumpton after more than a year on the sidelines, and Mike Moriarity's new purchase Ladino, gave stable jockey, Jamie Goldstein his first ride back after a 5 week layoff following a fall at Plumpton. Ladino ran a very creditable 5th to some decent horses at Cheltenham and it looks like we should have some fun with him this winter. Following her win and a third in a chase, Lojo was sold and will continue in racing career elsewhere. There are a number of new horses which should make see the racecourse within the next month - watch this space.

September 21st - Lojo wins the Seller at Fontwell. Lojo confirmed how genuine she is by winning the selling hurdle. In the absence of Jamie and Mark Goldstein, Paddy Merrigan stepped in for the ride and maintained his 100% record for the yard ! (2 rides 2 wins). Everybody in the yard were particularly pleased as Lojo is such a stable favourite whose form has never quite reflected our opinion of her.

September 17th - A eventful day for the yard when due to a loose horse, both Jamie and Mark Goldstein were unseated and, unfortunately both suffered injuries which will mean a spell on the sidelines for them both. Cambo ran well and looked to be in contention until fading in the home straight. There is better to aome from him.

S eptember - A lot has happened over the summer, Able King, a New Zealand import, won twice over hurdles following a couple of seconds. In many ways it was mission accomplished as when he arrived there were doubts as to whether he would stand training here in the UK. He was claimed after his win by Milton Harris and has yet to run for his new connections. Mister Completely was placed for us over hurdles and was sold recently and will continue his career with Nick Littmoden in Newmarket. There are several new horses in the yard, who will be aimed at juvenile hurdles this winter. Details of these can be found on the horses page.

June 24th - Dubai Ace ran a fine race to finish second at Newmarket. Beaten by a short head he will surely lose his maiden tag on the flat soon.

June 5th - After being claimed at Plumpton recently Mac Federal made a winning start for the yard and his new owner at Hereford yesterday at 25-1. Although not considered the best jumper in the world he stayed on well and outjumped the favourite at the last to win a shade comfortable. His win constinues the yards good form first time out with horses claimed from other yards. He is a progressive horse and there is more to come from him.

May 5th - Mister Completely made all over 1 mile 6 furlongs to win by an easy 3 1/2 lengths! He led from about 1/2 furlong and turning into the straight it looked like the field were poised to reel him in. However, another kick from Ed Creighton and off he went to finish unchallenged.. If only they were all as easy as this win ! Cambo ran a very creditable race to finish 4th in a large field over hurdles at Huntingdon. Whilst you would never consider him a brilliant jumper his flat speed and liking of good ground should enable him to win a hurdle race this summer.

March 21st Its Wallace Jnr ran well to win the Novice Chase today and in the process gave the yard it's very first chase winner. On a day when many trainers chose not to run their soft ground horses, It's Wallace Jnt relished the quicker ground and got off the mark in only his second race over fences. Silber Mond made a pleasing start to hurdling with a confident third, despite hitting one hurdle hard on the final circuit. Cambo showed that his indifferent form so far this season was down to the ground, and on this quicker surface showed is true form by finishing 3rd at the healthy odds of 50-1

20th March - a busy day for the yard tomorrow with three runners at Warwick. Silber Mond makes his debut for the yard in the first. Cambo runs over hurdles at 3.10 and It's Wallace Jnr runs in the 3m Novice Chase at 3.40, against just 4 opponents ! Watch this space!!

Cheltenham Festival News - Both Kalmini and Screenplay did the yard and their owners proud with good runs at Cheltenham. Whilst we would all have loved to bring home two winners, they each ran well and were beaten by top class horses.

28th January - Everyone connected with the yard were disappointed when the meeting at Cheltenham was abandoned today, as Kalmini had a great chance in the Finesse Hurdle. Whilst pre festival options are limited, she is being lined up for another race before tackling the Triumph at Cheltenham. However, not all was lost, Dubai Ace lifted everyones spirits by finishing 2nd on the all weather at Lingfield. Having come from off the pace over a trip of 1 1/2 miles he was chasing down the winner at the finish. It would be reasonable to suggest that he should lose his maiden tag very soon.

23rd January - Mister Completely - running for the yard for the first time, Mister Completely went from last to first to win the extended two mile race at Wolverhampton in convincing style. This horse only joined the yard last week after being bought out of the "Seller" at Lingfield, in which Mujazaf ran a creditable third.

9th January - Kalmini won a very competitive Introduction Hurdle at Taunton today and in the process earned herself a 33-1 quote for the Cheltenham Triumph Hurdle. Running for the first time in the colours of her new owners, WRB 58, Kalmini was forced to make much of the running on ground which was probably softer than her ideal. Dispite this, and the presence of some very well thought of horses from major yards, she battled on to win by a length and in doing so confirmed the form of her win at Huntingdon. Clearly there is more to come from her and her next race is scheduled to be at Cheltenham on 28th January, before a crack at the Triumph Hurdle !

4th January - Dubai Ace - Returning to run on the flat after exactly one year - Dubai Ace ran a good race to finish a closing 3rd at Lingfield, over a trip which is probably on the short side for him now. With few opportunities for him over hurdles at present this was a small bonus for the owners. He will be back over hurdles soon, but as he is still a maiden on the flat another run on the flat can't be ruled out.

1st January 2006 - Belita finished 2nd in the listed Junior Bumper at Cheltenham today. She looked to have the race sewn up a furlong out but was beaten by a fast finishing Mick Fitzgerald. She will stay in Bumpers for the time being and a crack at the Champion Bumper at the Festival looks to be on the cards.

December 26th- It's Wallace Jnr - After a long layoff "Junior" made a pleasing return to action at Wincanton in a Pertemps Cheltenham qualifier finishing a very creditable 4th - clearly he has lost none of his ability and he is one to watch closely over the next months. 28th November - Following Screenplay's win at Newbury the yard now shows a jumps profit of £168.88 to a £1 stake.... and shows a profit for flat runners too. Are these the best statistics within the British Racing Industry ?

27th November - What a week, following up Kalmini's win at 28-1 last Saturday, Belita's win at 25-1 on Tuesday, SCREENPLAY did the yard proud by carrying top weight to win over 2mile 5 furlongs at Newbury...at the astonishing price of 25-1. When interviewed by UK Racing, Sheena was quoted as saying "How long will it be before the bookies realise that they shouldn't let our horses start at these long odds"..... to which all owners in the yard replied "As long as possible!". Screenplay is now heading for a winter break, but watch this space he'll be back in the spring raring to go.

26th November. Following the yards two winners in three days the Evening Argus produced a 3/4 page article on Friday evening. to read this article click on this link

22nd November - BELITA- another horse making her debut for the yard, in fact her very first appearance at a racecourse, made it a winning one, when taking the Junior National Hunt Flat Race at Warwick. Belita is a well bred filly, who would have run on the flat this season but for minor problems, showed that she was good enough and fit enough to win at the first time of asking and at a price of 25-1. The second long priced, but not unexpected winner in 3 days.

18th November - KALMINI making her debut both for the yard and over hurdles, spreadeagled a quality juvenile field at Huntingdon, winning a competitive race in an impressive style and at 28-1!. Her form would suggest that the yard has a serious Cheltenham contender, who will command serious respect when she makes her next racecourse appearance. An added bonus that the race was televised live on channel 4, showing a wider public what the yard can achieve.

13th November - SCREENPLAY once again proved himself to be one of the toughest and most genuine 4yo Hurdlers in training with a sound performance at Cheltenham. Following a good start to the race he was badly hampered and found himself nearer last than first, he rallied gamely to finish a very creditable 8th and was the first 4yo home. His owners had a great time at the Paddy Power Meeting and can look forward to more memorable days with Screenplay.

CAMBO had his first run for us over hurdles and first for his new owners, the Mucky Duck Partnership, at Fontwell on Sunday. He took to hurdles very well and was disputing the lead for a large part of the race before his long layoff found him out. He will come on for this run and is one to watch for this season.

8th November - LOJO made a promising start to her national hunt career with a 6th place at Huntingdon.Racing in ground which would have been softer than she preferred, she jumped well and stayed on to finish just 15 lengths behind the winner.

6th October - SCREENPLAY now appears on the uk-jumping.com website as a horse to watch. Obviously his good run of form has been recognised by more people than we thought. Check out what they have to say by using the following link UK-JUMPING.COM

1st October - Screenplay steps up in grade and produces a creditable 2nd

Running in the Grade C hurdle, Screenplay produced another sound performance to finish a close 2nd to Fait Le Jo Jo. He beat off all of the fancied opposition but was beaten by a horse who returned to his best form after a long layoff. Screenplay continues his consistent run of form and has risen to every challenge put in front of him.

18th September - SCREENPLAY DOES IT AGAIN

Screenplay followed up his Fontwell win with another at Plumpton. Running over 2 miles in a £15,000 race, he proved he's still improving with a hard fought win over many highly regarded horses. The 2 mile trip is possibly a bit short for him, but Jamie made sure that the pace was strong enough and turning for home it was clear that Screenplay's stamina would see him finish in front. The race was the fastest of the day with Screenplay finishing 1 1/2 lengths clear in a time of 11.10 seconds faster than standard !

4th September 2005 - THE YARDS BIGGEST DAY SO FAR - A DOUBLE !!

Jamie Goldstein made a stunning start to his new life at Balmer Farm, by riding two perfect races to win on both Screenplay and Captain Coudy at Fontwell yesterday. This is the first time the yard has had two winners on the same card and both horses beat off all others to take the honours in back to back races on perfect sunny Sunday afternoon. Click here to read the Racing Post Review of the afternoon.

29th August 2005 - SCREENPLAY SECOND AGAIN

Screenplay ran a sound race to finish second at Huntingdon in a 2 mile Maiden Hurdle. Clearly this trip is on the short side for him and he will be winning over 2 1/2 miles very soon.

27th August 2005 - Mujazaf makes a good start for the yard at Goodwood.

After a long layoff Mujazaf made a good start for the yard with a 10th place. There will be much more to come from him over the winter.

18th August 2005 - SECOND WIN IN TWO WEEKS FOR CAPTAIN CLOUDY

Horse of the moment "Captain Cloudy" underlined his win on the flat at Folkestone with a confident win over hurdles at Fontwell. Prior to coming to Balmer he was a serial loser but his Fontwell win confirms that the flat win was no fluke. Jamie Goldstein gave him a superb ride, confidently producing the horse to join the leaders at the last, then going clear on the flat to win by 5 lengths. There is clearly more improvement to come. Click here for the full Racing Post results for the race

Tank was disappointing in the claiming hurdle and a rethink will be needed to find the key to this horse.

13th August 2005 - OUT OF THE FOG AT GOODWOOD

Captain Cloudy emerged from the fog at Goodwood to finish a creditable 4th. Having been left in front sooner that was planned he ran on well to finish a close to the winner in the middle of a rainstorm

10th August 2005 ............... " JAMIE GOLDSTEIN JOINS THE TEAM"

We are pleased to announce that from September 1st, Jamie Goldstein will be based at Balmer Farm and working full time for us. Jamie has been our stable jockey since 2001 and has played a valuable part in the schooling of our horses. Jamie will continue to ride for other trainers but will now be on hand to ride work and school on a more regular basis. We very much hope that 2005 will be Jamie's best ever season!

4th August 2005...................."NEW HORSE WINS AT 14-1"

Captain Cloudy won at Folkestone @ 14-1 breaking his duck after 35 runs ! We claimed him after he ran 2nd over hurdles at Uttoxeter on 13th July and, as the papers stated, he obviously enjoys his new home! We will continue to campaign him both on the flat and over hurdles.
